When allegiance was paid to Abu Bakr (l.a.), Abu Sufyan Ibn Harb (l.a.) - who was considered among the elite of Mecca said,
O Abul Hasan (Ameerul Momineen) (a.s.)
What has happened in this affair
From the weakest of the Quraish and the least of them
Surely the worst of tribes and houses of the Quraish has overpowered you.
The same Abu Sufyan (l.a.) when he was asked about the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) by the Roman Emperor, he replied that he (s.a.w.a.) is from the noble ones of Quraish and from our dignified ones.
Thus, to say that Abu Sufyan (l.a.) must have said this to defame Abu Bakr (l.a.) or downgrade Islam is misplaced because he said the truth in case of Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) so why would he lie here?
Moreover, if this was not the case, people would have laughed at him and objected that no indeed Abu Bakr (l.a.) is from the nobles!!
